Watch out window - you're mine

Hey guys, it's been a good week! Today I had that meeting with a local creative company that I was talking about in my last post and it went pretty well. The woman in charge of the place is super nice and the building in general is clean, fresh, and professional. I had a good look around and the place is full of great resources for literally any local creative business, organisation, or group. They even have a gallery area for public exhibitions, which one guy pretty much takes care of on his own, but now that he has established a certain clientele he has been reluctant to mix things up a bit and branch out to a larger audience. I really think it needs some serious publicity because literally nobody I spoke to about going there, knew what or where it was.

Anyway, that's pretty much the first project she's given me - improve awareness and advertise the social media side of the company. Pimp out its Facebook and Twitter, in short. As a self proclaimed Facebook addicted, I've totally got that covered. But - here's the best bit - I've been given free reign over a new design for the shop window!

I'm like a kid in a candy shop, I can't wait to get stuck in. I've never really done any degree of professional graphic design but I'm thinking that will work in my advantage - in my opinion a little personal touch will really get the message across that they're not just a mindless, faceless, money making scheme. They're really passionate about local contemporary art and design but from the outside of the place, you'd never guess it.

If I have the time (I'm a busy bee this week), I'll be going down there on Monday to sit in on a meeting about the gallery and meet the chap who runs it, but otherwise I'm there for sure on Friday to show off my ideas for the window display. After that, she might let me loose on the noticeboard too...

Anyway, stay posted to see some of my design mock ups later in the week!

Start2Vive

Hello new blog - you look so pretty and clean!

I'm pretty much one hundred percent terrible at introduction. I had two options:
  1. Type a witty and engaging introduction, cleverly summarizing my blog ideas and promising great things in the future!
  2. Write an average day blog post, as if I have been posting for years, and hope that nobody ever looks far back enough through my posts to notice.
I decided to do neither of these things and write a decidedly uninteresting blog post.

I am a twenty year old girl from the North West UK, but you can call me Vive. I juggle two very different parts of my life: my club-going, fashion-worshipping "real life", and my work-from-home, internet-obsessed "online life" that funds it. I guess I hoped that other girls might relate, or that I could show that working online just doesn't have the same social stigma it used to. You can be an internet nerd like me and not be socially awkward like people seem to assume!

Anyway, I guess throughout this blog I'll be updating you guys on the exciting directions my life is taking right now. Here's some recent background information you should probably know so you don't get lost along the way.
  1. After a long period of waitressing and feeling decidedly glum about my minimal career prospects, I took the plunge and quit. A few months of sad, self-pity filled unemployment followed, until I was hired as Community Manager for an up-and-coming game and website development company. Now I pick my own working hours, control my own finances, earn double what I did before, and eventually, will supervise two teams of staff. Who I will treat to cupcakes.
  2. I'm a creative person and I have done little bits of freelance graphic design and illustration over the years for online simulation games. Just recently I was offered the opportunity to go and do some volunteer advertisement design at a local design company - an unbelievable chance to get great experience in the industry! I meet with them for the first time next week. Stay tuned.
